Starting the season off strong, Landon School, 36th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, won its first game over a talented Paul VI squad in a 13-8 victory.
After an even first going 5-5, attackman Colton Rupp and midfielder Jack Bolen, both committed to Cornell, exploded out of the gates with two goals each to lead 9-7 by the end of the third.
The duo did not slow down in the fourth. By the midpoint of the quarter, Bolen had already doubled his tally, reaching four goals in the game. In the final minute of the game, Rupp found the net again for his third goal of the half and fourth in the game. The attackman also had two assists in the contest.
Landon’s superb offense in the second half put the game out of reach for the Panthers. Simultaneously, the Bears’ defense shut down Paul VI, limiting the Panthers to just three second half goals and giving their offense plenty of time to get to work.
Now with one win for them, the Bears host Calverton on March 13 and the Hill Academy on March 15. The Hill Academy, coming down from Ontario, has been successful thus far in Maryland, already defeating highly ranked St. Paul’s and Gonzaga. Landon will need to be in top form for Saturday’s tough contest.
