Maryland’s top-team, Landon, faced off against Bullis in the DC IAC semifinals.
Landon entered the game with an 18-2 record, ranking 3rd in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings. At 14-4, Bullis ranked 17th in the nation and 6th in Maryland going into the contest.
Koko Avedisian struck first for the Bears off a dish from Joey Epstein, giving Landon the only score of the first quarter.
Early in the second, Landon doubled its tally, this time from an Epstein feed to Rob Adkins. Bullis struck back less than a minute later, putting the Bulldogs on the board. Colton Rupp came right back with a goal off a stunning dodge to free himself up. The Bulldogs scored twice more before the midway point of the quarter, tying the game at 3-3. Both teams went scoreless for the remaining of the half.
It took Rupp all but 11 seconds to open up the scoring in the second half. Then Bullis took its first lead of the game after a pair of goals, the latter of which came on a man-up opportunity. With just under four minutes to go, Epstein struck mesh off a pass from Griffin Brown, tying the score at 5 before the fourth quarter.
Like the previous quarter, Landon started the fourth with a goal 11 seconds in, this time from Nate Buller. The Bears struck again on an Epstein goal when Rupp found him from his knees. Minutes later, Rupp found Brown to give Landon an 8-5 lead. Bullis managed a goal with under two minutes to go, but it was too little, too late; the Bears walked away with a two-goal victory.
Advancing to the championship game, Landon hosts Georgetown Prep, ranked 7th in the nation and 2nd in the state.
